Exmoor formed in 2003 in Mission Viejo, CA, where Ian Anderson, Chase Ishii, Brandon Seymour and Matt Hahn attended Newhart Middle School. After being approached by Chris Connolly about forming a band, Matt realized how simple it would be to do himself. After nothing coming from the project with Chris (though they would be close friends in high school), Matt asked Ian (guitar), Chase (drums), and Brandon (vocals) to form a band. After recording an EP in Ian's garage on Exmoor (onto a video camera, at the suggestion of Bio teacher Mr. Abe), the group asked Brandon to leave the group to pursue the power trio format. They went on to build a studio space in Ian's garage and recorded another EP to enter in Newhart's battle of the bands competition, which they won by default. After an historic performance in the Newhart Middleschool Multipurpose Room in 2005, the band entered high school at Capistrano Valley HS in Mission Viejo and quickly recruited local track and field phenom/guitarist Anders Howmann. The four-piece recorded a few demos of material and with Anders' high level of musicianship, they believed the new songs were on a higher level than before. Unfortunately, the band was threatened with legal action by another band named Exmoor who had a copyright to the name and shortly thereafter, Ian moved to Newport Beach and the members became entrenched in the perils of AP testing and extracurricular activities. Today Ian is a designer in Berlin, Chase is a developer with a bay area startup, Matt is a job coach in Seattle and Anders is a journalist in Orange County.
